Bright Futures Scholarship 

The Bright Futures Scholarship is a merit-based financial aid program in Florida that helps high school graduates pay for college. It rewards students for strong academic performance, community involvement, and preparation for higher education.

The program can cover a large portion of tuition and certain fees at eligible Florida public colleges, universities, and some private institutions.


Main Award Levels

Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)

The highest award level. Covers most tuition and applicable fees at public institutions and may include additional benefits for academic expenses.

Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)

Covers a significant portion of tuition and fees at public colleges and universities.

Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV)

Supports students pursuing career or technical education programs.

Gold Seal CAPE Scholars (GSC)

Designed for students earning industry certifications and continuing into specific degree programs.


General Eligibility Requirements

Students typically must:

  • Graduate from a Florida high school
  • Meet minimum GPA requirements in required coursework
  • Complete the required number of service hours, work hours, or a combination of both
  • Achieve qualifying test scores on exams such as the SAT or ACT
  • Apply by submitting the Florida Financial Aid Application during senior year

Service and Work Hours Requirement

Students may fulfill the program requirement through:

-Community service hours or Paid work hours or A combination of community service and paid work hours

Work hours must be verified using paystubs. Community service hours must be documented and approved in advance according to school guidelines.
